Matte PLA that actually looks matte. Panchroma Matte prints with a flat, soft-touch surface that swallows layer lines — the difference between a print that looks 3D-printed and one that just looks made.

Polymaker rebranded this line from PolyTerra; it's the same filament with a clearer name. It runs on standard PLA settings, needs no enclosure, and is forgiving enough to be a first roll. Reach for it for anything you'll actually look at — figures, display pieces, props, enclosures — rather than anything that has to carry a load.

Worth knowing

The matte effect comes from a filler blended through the polymer rather than a surface coating, so it goes all the way through — sand an edge and it stays matte. That filler also changes how the material behaves. At 23 MPa tensile strength it is softer and less stiff than a standard PLA, so it's the wrong pick for brackets, clips or anything under sustained load.

What you get in exchange is toughness. Polymaker's own figures put its notched impact strength at roughly three times that of their standard Panchroma PLA, so prints chip and shatter less when dropped — worth having on parts that get handled.

Use a 0.4mm nozzle or larger and leave cooling on full. Polymaker advise against going finer, and matte filaments in general flow less predictably through a 0.2mm nozzle. Like any PLA it starts to soften around 62°C, so nothing left in a parked car in Singapore will survive the afternoon.

Storage

Polymaker specify drying at 55°C for 6 hours if a spool has taken on moisture. Keep it sealed with fresh desiccant between prints and it should rarely come to that.

As filament takes on moisture you'll hear popping or hissing at the nozzle, then see stringing and rough surfaces, and eventually the strand goes brittle enough to snap in the tube. That's almost always moisture, not technique — dry it and it usually comes back.
